Finished - Esme's Flying Kites Quilt

It didn't take too long to sew binding to this 44" X 54" quilt. In case you're interested, here's the back of the quilt, and two of the bound corners. Of course, I used my own favorite method of sewing binding with machine-sewn mitered corners.

If my great-niece, Esme, arrives as expected, she'll get this quilt around September 1.

Homemade Basting Spray

3 cups water

1 tsp. salt

3 heaping TBLS. flour

1 cup rubbing alcohol (Vodka works too and makes the spray odorless)

1 clean 24-ounce spray bottle

A 16.9-ounce Best Press bottle works; 2 bottles will be needed.

Combine 2 cups water and 1 tsp. salt in a pot; bring to a boil.

Combine 1 cup water and 3 heaping TBLS. flour in a jar or well sealed tupperware; shake to mix. When the water and salt boils, lower temperature to a gentle boil; add flour and water. Cook on medium heat until the mixture thickens like gravy. Stir it so it doesn't stick. Remove from heat. Let cool to room temperature. When mixture is cool, pour it into the spray bottle. Add 1 cup rubbing alcohol or vodka. Shake well to mix.
