QuiltCon Raleigh, Part 4 - Minimalist

While 25 quilts were displayed in the Minimalist category, pictures that follow are those of quilts that attracted my attention.

Flock, Rachel Brown @rachelbrownartstudio, North Carolina

Rachel said she challenged herself to make a Flying Geese quilt without any Flying Geese blocks. This is quilt-as-you-go.

Spun Straw, Clara Stoikow @bimbambuki_blog, Germany
This quilt won 2nd place in the Minimalist category.

Clara said the fabric was a protective cloth she used when varnishing chairs. She hand quilted circles, "circle by circle like a miller's daughter spins straw into gold."

She states: "Old piece of cotton fabric covered with paint splatters."

Climb Every Mountain, Kazuyo Doi @fun_fun_quilt, Japan

The appliquéd cherry tomatoes spell out lyrics of a song (?).

It's domestic machine quilted.

Priorities, Yulia Morabito @quiltcreation, Italy

This is improv pieced with domestic machine quilting and hand quilting.

Arm in Arm, Dorathy Lackman, North Carolina

Domestic machine quilting.

Acoustic, Bailey Wilson Collins @copperandcitrus, Arizona

Pieced with ice-dyed fabric and linen, and domestic machine quilted.

It seems I took the most pictures of quilts in the Small Quilts category - coming up next! Linda
