Improv WIP

January finds me determined to finish a couple WIPs, starting with an improv quilt.

I began making blocks during two different workshops with Cindy Grisdella
The first workshop was in person on December 6, 2023.
The second workshop was virtual on September 7, 2024.

Trying to combine different blocks, especially when I have used-up most of the fabric colors from the first workshop, has been challenging.

Orange-y reds - Kona Crush - with bits of amber, aqua, and white are the quilt's center composition, from the first workshop.

I'm bordering the center with blocks from the second workshop, using Painter's Palette Aluminum as background. I began with improv triangles, some with strips of accents. Now

Now I'm making
"confetti dots" - Cindy's term for sprinkles of color. These have been slow-going.

I'm disappointed with myself for not making more progress than this, but am allowing myself some grace.

The head cold I came down with last Friday, turned out to be COVID. It's been rough. I haven't felt like doing anything but lay in bed and be miserable.

Wish I could say I'd been on a fabulous trip somewhere and the virus came home with me, but I've done nothing more than attend my usual group activities. I have a strong feeling that someone in my quilting groups or line dance classes shared it with me. I only hope I didn't pass it on to someone else before my symptoms began. It's still a very unpleasant virus to deal with. On the positive side, I can't taste anything. Food isn't appealing. I've lost three pounds. Linda

  2. Take care of yourself. That virus is still nasty! I do love where you are going with your improv project. Love the pop of turquoise with the reds and oranges.--TerryK@OnGoingProjects

    1. Hello Terry! Once again, I tried replying to you, using the email address you provided. And again, I am getting notifications that my message to you bounced... but they'll keep trying. Maybe your mailbox is full? In any case, I DO reply to you!

I appreciate your good wishes with COVID though, now on my seventh day, I still can’t taste or smell anything. I've spent four days in bed. It has simply zapped all my energy.

I appreciate your positive perspective on my improv quilt. Thanks so much! I can’t wait to feeling well enough to work on it again. Linda

  3. Bummer you caught Covid! We had it in August, with no idea where we got it either. But it's no fun!! Take it easy!

  4. I love how you're integrating the 2 workshops. It's looking fabulous. So sorry about the Covid though. Stuff is going around here to and we're not 100% either. It's frustrating when I want to get things done. Be kind to yourself and get the rest you need. Hope you feel better soon.

  5. Well, phooey! Covid and the other upper respiratory ills keep showing up. Hope you are improving every day. Be gentle with yourself. Love the center of your improvement piece. The spikey triangle borders are fab! Makes me think of sun spots or maybe that funky virus graphic that circulated back in January 2020!

  7. What a bummer. I am trying to stay away from big groups of people when it's cold and we can't get out in the sun and fresh air much. Take care of yourself. Dar

    1. Thank you very much! I hope so too! Today is day seven of having symptoms, and improvement has been extremely slow. Bed has been the best place to be. Generally I feel like a lump, with no desire to eat, since I can't taste or smell anything. Maybe in a few more days...

  12. Sorry to hear you're sick! Maybe your quilt will move faster and look better to you when you feel better! I just pulled out my Cindy Grisdela blocks last week and worked on them, then threw them all in the recycle! Hope you have more luck.

  13. from Elizabeth E. of OPQuilt: (you know why I wrote this :) I am so sorry you have covid! I don't think it matters where you got it -- it's a miserable virus and laying in bed is a good thing to do to get over it. Even with that awfulness, you lead your blog with a beautiful quilt, full of fun curves and dots and shapes. Get better soon, and we'll see you then!
