I've made myself work on Big Cypress Quilters quilt-along blocks. It's a design meant to be made with a jelly roll or two, but since I've never owned a jelly roll (and don't want to start now), I thought to cut all the pieces individually, from scraps. Thus far, these are the 11 blocks, 12" X 12" (finished) I've piece. I have 9 more cut and ready to piece.
I've also half-heartedly begun working on my Central Florida MQG "Pick a Decade" Challenge. I started strong with the single "atomic-looking" block, and have futzed on a few occasions with machine appliquéing other 1950s shapes. Inspiration for this project is sorely lacking.
Instead I've continued to round loom knit, making two preemie caps, and another Comfort Doll.
I've also continued to diamond paint, though I hit a big stop last Friday. When I went to Diamond Painting Club. I was stunned to realize I'd diamond painted the sun, and it was completely PINK! Friends verified I had chosen and used the correct drill colors, according to the key.
A side-by-side examination of the advertised painting, and my efforts thus far, reveal the difference. The mistakes are on the canvas, and I'm missing all the drill colors of the sun.
As you can see, I'm nearly half-way finished with it!
Why did this happen to me?! It the very first diamond painting kit I ordered! I'm feeling sick about the 20 hours of painting (at least) I may have wasted. Assuredly, I'm not happy about this, and am in communication with the company. I expect a fix or a refund.
Perhaps this is a good reason for me to stick with sewing! Linda
Sorry to hear that you've run into the summer doldrums as far as stitching is concerned! That is definitely not like you. Could it be that there are just too many "have to's" in that list and no time for a fun no-commitment "just playing" quilt? Diamond painting has never entered my mind since fabrics, needle and thread have me totally hooked. Sadly, the old Singer 201 I've used for piecing for 27 years quit yesterday and I suspect it may have stopped for good as it seems to have seized up totally. It was sewing perfectly last week when I finished another top. The Singer 301 is now substituting and doing a nice job but it just doesn't have that sturdy sound of the other machine. Some weeks are just that way I guess.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get satisfaction from the diamond painting company after all the work you've put in. And then post a review (either way) so others can be advised. It's amazing how different customer service is with different companies, so I like to see reviews. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWell, your quilt projects are looking good even though you feel a bit lackluster about them at the moment. Maybe your "creative muse" is miffed about the knitting and diamond paining! ha, ha. Oh my gosh, all that time on this project you can't get back! Beyond aggravating for sure. Hope they resolve this in a fair way.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you’re enjoying knitting, those items are so cute! Our hobbies aren’t meant to be a job, lol, so I find it’s better for me to ignore the to-do list and work on whatever’s bringing me pleasure in the moment. Sewjo returns when I’m refreshed and ready for it. Good luck with the painting company!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anonymous! I am very much enjoying round loom knitting, and I've now just moved on to crocheted amigirumi. As you might guess, I'm ignoring the hobbies that aren't piquing my interest at this moment, so I'm doing exactly as you suggested. But, I'm also feeling guilty about not working on what I SHOULD work on! I'm happy to say I received an email from the diamond painting company this morning; they have already sent me a new kit. While I'm happy about this, I am also feeling a bit sick about the time I've put into the first one. I must take a deep breath and move on.
DeleteBummer about the diamond painting error! Hope that gets resolved to your liking, but how frustrating.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work 👏 👌
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying so, Linda! By the way, you're a "no reply-commenter" so I am unable to respond to you via email. It's nice of you to comment though!
DeleteYour blocks look fabulous! Super bummer on the diamond painting, hopefully you can source the correct drills and correct it fairly easily. I find my motivation for different crafts waxes and wanes over time, and it's definitely been a process to learn to let go of the guilts and "should bes"
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt-along block!!! Perfect made in scraps!!! So sorry about the diamond painting!!!!
