2013 is a Wrap

It's time for the annual 2013 project review. Looking at these finishes, I'll admit to feeling a little disappointed that I didn't complete more, especially the UFOs that remain on my "On the Horizon" list (a tab at the top).

By my calculations, breast cancer and peripheral vascular disease stole about ten weeks from my life. So, I'll blame my reduced productivity on those two physical challenges, and pray that 2014 is a much healthier year.

Here's a collage of the 11 quilts I completed. My favorite is Bloom - the middle bottom photo. I'm pretty happy with the hexagon quilts too. I'm officially hooked on hexies!

These are some of the other creations that came from my sewing room - pillows, bowl buddies, bags and totes, thread catchers, a table runner, an apron, an engineer cap, and ticker tape canvases. Two skirts and a dress aren't included in the collage.

So, perhaps not too shameful after all, considering...

I'm optimistic about 2014 since I already know some really good things lie ahead - the birth of a grandson; teaching beginner quiltmaking, and free motion quilting; giving presentations about modern quilting (if you're local, check my "Schedule" tab above); several articles in print in American Quilter magazine; and (hopefully) house guests, with all of them being first-time visitors.

Health wise, I definitely expect 2014 to be a better year. With God beside me, I'll trust and handle whatever might lie ahead. Praying for all good things for you, and me! Blessings on us, every one.

Happy New Year! Linda

  5. Don't be disappointed, you have achieved so much. Your time and energy in 2013 had to be shared between more events that you may have had listed in your calendar. Just enjoy. Happy New Year and wishes for very good health and happiness to you and your family.

  16. Linda, you are such a dynamo!!!! I can't believe how much you got done in such a challenging year. And let me tell you, lady: I know me - if I'd been through what you had, there would have been a LOT more weeks lost and maybe all of 3 quilts finished. You're amazing. It's a really terrific set of finishes, too. And all the teaching you did. . . You can be darned proud of what you accomplished.

  17. Linda, you have accomplished so much considering the year you've had health wise. And your creativity is so encouraging to me, but your attitude with LiFe and the path you've been given is so inspiring. Keep doing what you are doing, you are amazing ~

  18. You accomplished a lot! You went away for some weeks too, didn't you? Breast cancer and vascular disease stole only 10 weeks of your life, not your life. HUGE positive! Blessings for 2014 for you and yours.

  19. What an amazing array! Linda, anyone would have been proud to have achieved what you did in 2013, but knowing the challenges you've had to deal with makes this especially worthy of a "Hurrah!". Bloom is my favourite of your quilts too :-) I hope I can be more creative this year, inspired (as always!) by your work and faith.

  20. Loved seeing your collages, and you and I have the same favorite quilt of yours.

Your assessment about losing ten weeks of your life is a thoughtful way to consider our time on this earth and how we use it. "Stole" is the right word, as time is so precious to us. I felt better about my year after reading your thoughts about that--I too lost about 10 weeks due to foot surgery and that dang, horrible illness from mid-November through to the end of the year. So thank you for those thoughts. But in spite of that, we persevered, got quilts done and enjoyed our children and grandchildren. And that is the good measure of life, isn't it?

I'm hoping that you'll have use of ALL your weeks this year!!

    Elizabeth
