Instagram Announces Changes

For those of you who read blogs only and are not on Instagram, you may be seeing more blog activity in the months ahead.

On March 15, Instagram announced that it's changing it's feed format from one that is chronological to one that is based on an algorithm. In plain terms it means that the pictures I see on my feed will no longer be in the order that my friends post them, but will be sorted by Instagram to be delivered to me in popularity order. Apparently this is how it's done on Facebook... a program I have intentionally never used.

Here's the New York Times article about Instagram's announcement.

Right now there's a great outcry among Instagram users.

Should the planned changes go through, many of us will leave Instagram and return to more frequent blogging as our social media outlet for quilting.

I thought I'd share this with my blog readers who are not on Instagram. In the upcoming months, your Bloglovin' and Feedly blog-reader programs may begin to "blow up!" Linda

  1. Just when I'm thinking of using Instagram more often. So far I haven't made it a routine habit. I look but don't often post my own things. Unfortunately my blog hasn't been at the top of the list lately either. Gotta love the constantly changing social media world. The older I get the less I'm motivated to figure it all out.

  2. It always surprises me how "they" make these changes to "make it better". Seldom does.

  3. Thanks much for the heads up. I do not use Instagram or Facebook, but was considering signing up for FB because so many of my friends are on it. I don't have enough time to post on my blog the way I would like, so I am reluctant to add any more to my preciously few minutes that I have for the computer now. I know I'm probably missing out on so much by not looking at FB, Instagram and Pinterest, but I do have another life somewhere that revolves around people I can touch and see one-on-one. I don't want to short change them.

  4. I noticed a few days ago when the the post times had been moved to the bottom of bottom of the posts and I thought something must be up with that! I hate to see this happen.

  5. I was recently lamenting the decrease in blog activity as people I follow move to other forms of social media so I will be happy if my blog feed blows up.

    1. Hi Quiltcat! I'm unable to reply to you by email because you're a no-reply commenter, but I wanted to wish both of us well with our blogs! If IG goes downhill, as I think it will, I will be blogging more, and visiting more blogs. I hope your feed blows up! :-)

  7. funny, but I've backed off Instagram...so hard keeping up with emails, FaceBook (yep, I'm hooked! But found my rescue doggie there!), blog reading and keeping my own blog up to date!

  8. I despise FB but need to be on it for some things I am involved with....if they change IG to that I will be blogging more. I have been a lazy blogger! Flickr was also ruined by the powers that be!
