Crazy Idea?

For Christmas, our grandson Tay received this Fisher-Price magnetic drawing board from us.

It's fun for doodling.

Just start drawing.

Oh my goodness. I can draw feathers!

I can draw feathers to fill a space.

I can try other designs.

Gosh. Free motion quilting designs!

This is a kids' toy with only a 7" X 10" area for drawing, but...

...has anyone realized how effective a tool this can be for quilters who want to practice FMQ designs?

Just draw, erase, and draw some more. No wasted paper. I'm looking for a big one for me!

A Google search turned up a 16" Easy Writer Doodle Magnetic Drawing Board that might be just the ticket. Too bad they're out of stock. But, I'm not giving up.

Anyone else thinking to snitch borrow their grandchild's magnetic drawing board? Linda

Very creative, Linda! I challenge people to doodle draw, and I myself buy the composition notebooks when they are on clearance for that very reason. It does help!

great idea--the person whose fmq quilt along i joined to learn how to do it said tracing patterns in a journal was good for training your brain to move your hands for the designs, so this would be perfect. have a great day

The woman at my local quilt shop who does longarm quilting suggested this to me last year and I looked for one then but didn't find it. She said to get the cheap one but I didn't find one I thought was cheap. :) I'm glad you reminded me. blessings, marlene

So simple, inspired! Why haven't we thought of this before?

Fun idea, Linda! I purchased a white board for practicing....your idea is similar. If I owned a magnetic board, then the grandies could play with it when I'm not!!
